North Dakota's first indoor RV park opening in July

Posted by adminwp | RV Park | Thursday 3 May 2012 11:13 pm

WILLISTON, N.D. A family joke about living in an RV parked in a pole barn has led a Minnesota contractor to come up with a new housing solution for the Oil Patch: an indoor RV park.

Chad Lekander of Mahtowa, Minn., said he was researching possible business opportunities in North Dakota when he remembered his uncles idea to put an RV indoors.

Now Lekander has formed B&H Construction Companies with partner Louie Bonneville to construct an RV park about five miles south of Watford City.

The park will consist of 10 buildings to accommodate 240 RVs and will be managed by NETA Property Management of Fargo.

The goal is to provide a safer, more comfortable housing option for oil boom workers who are forced to live in campers because of the housing shortage, said Bill Triebwasser, president NETA Property Management.

Its basically care-free RV living, said Triebwasser, whose company manages 500 apartment units in North Dakota and Minnesota.

The first 48 units will be available July 1, with another 48 opening every month after that, Triebwasser said.

Kenan Bullinger, director of the food and lodging division for the North Dakota Department of Health, said this is the first such project in the state.

I think its a great concept, Bullinger said.

The developers had to work out some safety issues before the health department approved it, Bullinger said.

North Dakota oil patch getting indoor RV park

Posted by admin | RV Park | Thursday 3 May 2012 11:13 pm

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) A Minnesota businessman has come up with a unique approach to helping ease the housing shortage in western North Dakota’s booming oil patch an indoor park for recreational vehicles.

Chad Lekander, of Mahtowa, Minn., and a partner have formed B&H Construction Companies to build the indoor RV park south of Watford City. It will consist of 10 buildings to accommodate 240 RVs. Fargo-based NETA Property Management will oversee it.

The goal is to provide a safer, more comfortable housing option for the oil field workers who are forced to live in campers because they have nowhere else to stay, NETA President Bill Triebwasser told The Forum newspaper (http://bit.ly/ItSWp7 ).

Each ventilated building will be separated into eight bays. There will be drywall partitions to prevent fire from spreading. Each camper will have water and sewer hookups. The park also will have laundry facilities and a common gathering room.

“We’re trying to provide a healthy, safe environment,” Triebwasser said.

Kenan Bullinger, director of the food and lodging division at the state Health Department, said it is the first such project in the state.

“I think it’s a great concept,” Bullinger said.

RVs have been coming under increased scrutiny in the oil patch. Officials in Williston, the major city in the region, are considering banning them from areas that are not part of an RV park.

The first 48 units at the indoor RV park near Watford City will be available July 1, with another 48 opening each following month, Triebwasser said.

“It’s basically care-free RV living,” he said.

Milam County Sheriff David Greene said his office was notified about 4:45 a.m. Sunday that a person was having a seizure in the parking area of the Downtown Texas RV Park in the 9100 block of FM 908 North. Route 49 Biker Rally Donation to City of Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department

JEFFERSON, TX, APRIL 25, 2012: The Inaugural Route 49 Biker Rally was held on March 23-25, 2012 at the Diamond Don RV Park in Jefferson, Texas. The weekend started on Friday evening with a meet and greet BBQ, beer garden and Didley Squat in concert.

The major event and activities started on Saturday with a Poker Run, Bike Show, and Multiple Concerts. Unfortunately, due to the recent rains the biker games had to be cancelled for safety reasons, but that didnt stop the concerts and fabulous visitation of old and new friends.

The RV Park was a perfect venue just one mile from downtown Jefferson. Participates enjoyed some great concerts and food in the 1,800 sq ft barn (known as the Critter Shack) to rock the night away with multiple bands. On Friday evening and Saturday we heard the sounds of Didley Squat, Dazed, Rocq Show Band and our main band Velcro Fly (a ZZ Top Tribute Band).

Auntie Skinners hosted the Bike Show on Saturday afternoon outside on Austin Street. We had a great crowd of spectators and bikers that participated in the Bike Parade from downtown Jefferson to the RV Park after the Bike Show on Saturday. On Sunday Morning a devotion and Blessing of the Bikes was held at 8:30 a.m. led by Steve Wise Ministry (www.SteveWise.com). Wise succeeded in motorcycle racing beyond his wildest dreams. He has traveled around the world sharing his faith in Christ at various churches, racetracks and special events.

We would like to take this time to thank the City of Jefferson, the merchants and vendors that supported this effort and making it a smashing success.

A special thank you goes out to Coors Distributing from Longview, TX, Big Pines Lodge in Karnack, TX, Iron Cowboy Mercantile in DeBerry, TX, Jefferson Ice Express in Jefferson, TX and Johnny Caces in Longview, TX for all of their support during this event.

On April 30, 2012 at the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Station in Jefferson at 7:00 PM, James Novey (Route 49) and Diamond Don Rainey (Diamond Don Racing/RV Park) will be presenting a check to the Jeffersons Volunteer Fire Department. The Fire Department was instrumental in saving lives and property during the terrible fires of last fall. Route 49 Rally would like to express its appreciation for all of the support from the biker community and the local business involved in this project.

Save the Date for next years Rally planned for March 22-24, 2013 at Diamond Dont RV Park in Jefferson. We look forward to seeing you there!

Williston officials delay RV ban action

Williston has an estimated 300 to 400 campers

Williston has an estimated 300 to 400 campers with people living in them due to a severe housing shortage. A proposed city ordinance would make it illegal to live in an RV within the city. Forum Communications file photo

WILLISTON, N.D. City commissioners here delayed a decision on a proposed RV ban after an overflow crowd overwhelmingly opposed it Tuesday.

Commissioners decided to give people 30 days to submit comments on a proposal that would make it illegal to live in a camper that is not part of an RV park.

Many opponents, including Shannon Michels, who was representing Kum & Go convenience stores, told commissioners the city will lose its workforce if the ban moves forward. Seventy-three percent of her employees live in campers because they cant afford $2,500 rent, she said.

If they make it so we cant have campers, well have to shut our doors, Michels said. We have no place to put them.

Maeve MacSteves, owner of R. Rooster BBQ, said her business is thriving because of employees she has living on her property.

Youre going to see businesses close, MacSteves said.

Commissioners heard public comments for 45 minutes, with two people speaking in favor of the ban. Williston resident Melissa Meyer said she lives in a single-family home that is surrounded by RVs and junk cars, including a house across the street that has become a man camp. Meyer said shes afraid to let her children play in the yard.

An apartment building manager said she has to call police to chase RVs off the property.

Yogi Bear RV Park No Boo-Boo

Posted by adminwp | RV Park | Thursday 26 April 2012 7:10 am

Horn Lake, Ms – A Horn Lake RV park has just been named in the top 300 parks in America. That’s a heady honor for a Desoto County park that some said would never make it.

They told Keith Russell it would never work, 5 years ago he wanted to build an RV park in the middle of Horn Lake

“Everybody thought I was an idiot when I did this,” said Russell. “Oh yeah they wanted to have me committed. Sometimes, I thought I ought to go commit myself, but it worked, so”

The Jellystone Park Yogi Bear RV camp stays at capacity almost all the time. Keith says many of those staying here are construction workers at places like Valero or Nissan.

“A lot of ours are workers that come, stay a month, two months, and move on.”

Keith also has the market cornered on stay-cations, with a lot of his cabins being rented by local families.

“It’s an economical way for a local vacation. We’ve got activities for the kids and waterslides.”

Not bad for a Yogi park that a lot of people thought would be a boo boo from the start.
