Posted by adminwp | Trailer Parks | Thursday 3 May 2012 11:12 pm

When you hear trailer park lots of people often think tornadoes, ortrailer trash.

Other than that, mobile home parks are ignored, really…just invisible. But actually millions of Americans live in these communities nationwide. Where most people see little of value, the Concord-based ROC USA sees hope for the American dream.

Gorenstein (DG): Every morning Judy Stoddard picks herself up out of bed and drives to Boston.

Monday through Friday.

Stoddard: And I do the back roads which gets me there in an hour and 40 minutes.

DG: Judy is 71 years old.

Stoddard: Im exhausted when I get there, Im exhausted when I get home.

DG: She drives those back roads for a reason.

Stoddard: I dont see well. My vision isnt as good.

DG: Thats an understatement…she cant see out of one eye.

Foodie delight: Food trailer festival on Main Saturday

Posted by admin | Trailer Parks | Monday 30 April 2012 10:10 pm

On Saturday, residents can eat to their heart’s content at the Downtown Frisco StrEATS Gourmet Food Truck and Music Festival from 3 to 7 p.m.

The event which will be held at the gazebo on Fourth Street between Main and Elm Street will have 10 gourmet food trucks and an additional ice cream sandwich truck.

Judy Eguez, J& J downtown coordinator and city planner said the company wanted to host the event to entice residents and attendees to visit the downtown area.

Some of the food trucks that are scheduled to attend the festival include: Easy Slider, JoDawgs, a gourmet hot dog vendor, Lee’s Grilled Cheese, a grilled cheese sandwich truck that has toppings from bacon to jalapenos, and Cajun Tailgators. The event will also feature a beer and wine garden.

“We have a diverse menu,” Eguez said. “We have everything from whoopee pies, ice cream sandwiches and then we have some gourmet tacos like gourmet Korean tacos, SoCal style tacos; we have gourmet hot dogs, it’s a huge array of foods.”

Eguez said the companies are from all around the Dallas, Fort Worth region.

“Fort Worth has two food trailer parks and they’re always in Dallas,” she said. “They have operated in the DFW area except for Cool Haus, which is a new one, and they’re going to be launching at Frisco StrEATS.”

Cool Haus, a gourmet ice cream sandwich food truck, which recently joined the food festival, has locations in Miami, New York and Los Angeles, Eguez said.

Though the gourmet fare is not free, attendees are invited to shop and listen to music entertainment that will be provided by the Frisco School of Rock.

“They’re going to be playing — quite a few bands playing, we’re also going to have Dave Thomas, he’s going to be playing,” Eguez said. “With School of Rock, they have different bands; they’re just going to keep rotating. They’re a fun crowd and they’re really excited. The kids are really talented.”

Driver parks truck before suffering heart attack

Posted by admin | Trailer Parks | Thursday 26 April 2012 7:10 am

BY TERRY KARKOS

RUMFORD — A Peru man suffered a fatal heart attack Tuesday after pulling a loaded chip truck off Route 2 and into the Marden’s parking lot, police officer Dave Hodgson said.

Robert J. Bernard, 53, was unresponsive when he was pulled from the Richard Carrier Trucking Inc. tractor-trailer cab, Hodgson said.

Witnesses and medical responders performed CPR and Med-Care Ambulance took Bernard to Rumford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:41 p.m.

At about 1 p.m., Bernard pulled the 22-wheeler off the highway and into the parking lot, Hodgson said.

“He must have had a reason, because there was no reason for him to go into the parking lot,” the officer said.

He said that according to witnesses, the driver slumped over the steering wheel. The truck continued forward several hundred feet, passing between a cemetery on the right and parked cars and several stacked pallets of cedar chips on the left. It traveled down a slight embankment, its tires sinking into rain-softened dirt, and crashed into the edge of woods.

Hodgson said he didn’t know whether Bernard intentionally steered or aimed the rolling truck toward the woods to avoid striking parked vehicles before he lost consciousness.

“Luckily, nobody else was hurt,” he said.

Minn. protected by contract with new parks vendor

Posted by adminwp | Trailer Parks | Saturday 21 April 2012 1:11 pm

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The company that won the contract to create a new reservation system for Minnesota’s state parks made big promises, including “vastly improved functionality” at lower cost, and insisted it didn’t have any dissatisfied customers.

But the new system from US eDirect Inc. crashed when it went live March 1, overwhelmed by more visitors in its first hour than it had been designed to handle in a full day. The failure frustrated Minnesotans looking to book their summer getaways and required a month to put right.

“It was like we were on the fast train to hell,” recalled Courtland Nelson, director of the Parks and Trails Division of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Yet despite the early headaches, Nelson said the system has been working well since a beefed-up version became fully operational April 2. And the state is more likely to recoup some money from the vendor than lose any money from the rough launch.

Documents reviewed by The Associated Press under the state’s Data Practices Act show US eDirect will earn almost all its money from fees charged to system users. That’s projected to approach $600,000 this year.

Its contract was structured to minimize costs to the state, so the vendor has had to bear most of the costs of getting the system working. The DNR pays at most $175,000 for the three-year contract, which Nelson expects the state’s share of fees to more than cover.

The state’s contract allows it to withhold up to 10 percent of fee revenue pending a performance review at the end of each year. Nelson wouldn’t predict how much the state might keep for its trouble.

“We have some things to work through,” he said.

US eDirect outbid the previous reservation system provider in part by promising a system that would do more for less money, and the new system is clearly better. It offers campers much more information, whether they want to pitch a tent, park a trailer or rent a rustic cabin.

Users simply select a park, punch in the dates and type of site they want, and the system returns a chart of what’s available on and around those dates. The user can also summon a map to perform a similar search.

Watch: 'Little Miss Sunshine' Directors Are Finally Back With 'Ruby Sparks' Trailer

Posted by admin | Trailer Parks | Friday 20 April 2012 5:10 pm

“Little Miss Sunshine” directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris haven’t directed a feature since their Academy Award-winning indie hit, which opened a whopping six years ago. They’re finally back this summer with their romantic comedy “Ruby Sparks.”

The trailer for the high-concept romantic comedy starring “Sunshine” breakout Paul Dano, Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas, Chris Messina, Steve Coogan and Zoe Kazan (who also penned the script), just made its premiere online, and by the looks of it, “Ruby Sparks” looks like a winner and bears the heart-warming quirks that made “Sunshine” such a hit.

In “Ruby Sparks,” Dano plays a novelist struggling with writer’s block who finds love by creating a female character and willing her into existence. If only life were like the movies…

Fox Searchlight opens “Ruby Sparks” on July 25.

SG 2012 Slates: Moose Party

Posted by admin | Trailer Parks | Friday 20 April 2012 5:10 pm

News Delta Upsilon’s perennial slate is running to bring trailer parks to campus and to get everyone drunk as hell.

Photo: Tiffany Tan

The slate is composed of three DU brothers: first-year Daniel Kraft and second-years Zihan Xu and Spencer Bledsoe.

Mooses platform entails changes to almost every facet of the University, from academics and administration to student life.

Some of the most sweeping reforms are to IM sports. We want to include sports that are more bro: flip-cup, beer pong, slap cup, said Kraft, the slates candidate for vice president of adminstration.

They also proposed measures to make living in Hyde Park more affordable for students. Xu, the slates candidate for president, said that room and board prices are rising, so we need to make the Midway a trailer park, thereby saving students the trouble of having to rent an off-campus apartment.

The Moose Party also promised an innovative way that the university could become more environmentally friendly. Xu said, Were very eco-friendly this year andbottled water is bad, so bottled vodka is bad, so instead of having bottled vodka we have tap vodka in Reynolds Club.

Xu saw the slates lack of experience with student government as an asset.

We have no qualifications at all, he said. Nobody knows what theyre doing, but were the only ones wholl admit it.

Bledsoe, the slates candidate for vice president of student affairs, went on to praise the slates honesty and integrity.
